Advertising for electricians

Pay for the click and the phone rings. Stop paying and it goes quiet.

That is advertising for an electrician in two lines. Sometimes it earns its keep. Far more often it earns more after a few other things are in place.

Here is what it costs, when it pays, and what to build first.

We don't run Google Ads or Meta ads. We build the map listing, the reviews and the job pages that bring calls in when nobody is paying for the click, and we catch every call that comes. If you want enquiries while that builds, Local Services Ads are an optional extra.

About four minutes. You see your score and the one gap costing you calls, on screen.

Advertising for electricians, in short

What it is
Paying to be put in front of someone who needs an electrician. It comes in three kinds:
  • Search ads: Google shows your business at the top and you pay each time someone clicks.
  • Paid lead sites: Checkatrade, MyBuilder, TrustATrader or Bark, where you pay a membership or a fee for each enquiry.
  • Social ads: Facebook and Instagram show your offer to people in your area, against a budget you set.
Do we run it?
Not Google Ads or Meta ads. What we build is the part every ad depends on. The one exception is Google Local Services Ads: we set them up and look after the leads, as an optional extra. They aren't in any plan.
What it costs
Each kind bills differently, and the price moves with your town, the job and who else is bidding. We won't quote a figure we can't stand behind. See how each one bills.
When it pays
When your Google profile is finished, recent reviews are in, the job has its own page and someone answers every call. The full checklist.
What we charge
Plans start at £500 a month (Bronze), on a one-off £1,500 Foundation Build. Bronze, Silver and Gold roll monthly with 30 days' notice. See pricing.
How to start
The free Visibility Scorecard, or a callback if you would rather talk it through. Either way the next step is yours. This page sits under our marketing for electricians page.
Where the ad money goes

Four ways an electrician pays for a click and loses the job

None of these are the ad's fault. All of them sit around it, and all of them can be fixed before you spend.

The ad rings while you're in a loft

The phone goes, both hands are full, and there's no text back. The caller tries the next name. The click was paid for either way.

Clicks from the wrong search

"Electrician jobs", "electrician course" and "how to change a socket" sit close to the searches you want. Wide settings pay for all of them.

One enquiry, several of you

Bark's own customer terms say "a maximum of five Professionals will contact you directly" (Bark.com, clause 2.5(a), checked September 2026). Up to five electricians, each paying with credits to reach one customer.

The click lands on a thin page

A profile with a handful of old reviews, a website with one page headed "Electrical services". The visitor goes back and tries the next result. You paid for the visit, not the booking.

Fix what sits around the ad first, and every click you do pay for has somewhere good to land.

What advertising costs an electrician

How each kind of advertising bills you

We won't print a number, because the real one depends on your town, the job and who else is bidding. Here is what to ask before you pay anyone.

Search ads

Pay each time someone clicks

How it bills
Per click, whether or not they ring. A daily cap stops the bill running away.
What moves the price
Your town, the search itself, and how many electricians are bidding on it.
What to watch
The list of searches your ad appeared for. Wrong ones need blocking every week or two.
Paid lead sites

Pay a membership or per enquiry

How it bills
A monthly fee, or credits spent each time you contact a customer. It depends on the site.
What moves the price
The site's own rules, which can change, and how much demand there is in your area.
What to watch
How many others get the same enquiry, and whether your profile and reviews go when you stop paying.
Social ads

Pay to be shown to people nearby

How it bills
Against a budget you set, by views or clicks.
What moves the price
The area, the audience and how well the advert holds attention.
What to watch
These people weren't searching for an electrician. They need a clear offer and a one-tap way to ring or message.
The part nobody invoices

Someone has to mind it

How it bills
In your time, or an agency's fee, every week.
What moves the price
How many campaigns you run and how often they need checking.
What to watch
Spend with nobody reviewing it drifts. Know who checks the searches, the budget and the calls.

Before you hand over a pound, ask three things. What is the monthly cap? Which searches will it show for? How will I see which calls came from it?

When it is worth it

Spend when the groundwork is done. Wait when it isn't

A plain checklist. If you can tick most of the left side, an ad has something to work with.

Worth a go

When you can tick these

  • Your Google profile lists every job and area, with real photos
  • Recent reviews mention the job and the town
  • The job you're advertising has a page of its own
  • Every call is answered, or gets a text back within minutes
  • The job pays enough to cover the cost of winning it
  • You have a quiet fortnight to fill, or a new patch to open
  • Your cap is an amount you can lose without flinching
Wait

When you see these

  • The profile is half finished or never verified
  • The last review is months old
  • The website is one page for every job
  • Missed calls disappear and nobody follows them up
  • You hope the ad will cover for all of the above
  • You can't tell which calls came from where

Waiting is not a no. It is the order. The work on the left of that list is the work on this page.

Why the map and search come first

Three reasons to be found before you pay to be seen

Homeowners research EICRs, consumer units, rewires and EV chargers before they ring anyone. What they find decides who gets the call.

The map has no click meter

Your place in the map results and in search costs nothing per click. Every call from there is a call you didn't buy.

Reviews decide the ad too

Someone who clicks your ad still compares you with the others before they ring. Recent reviews that name the job win that comparison, whether the click was paid or free.

An ad needs somewhere to land

A page about the exact job turns a click into a call. Without one, the ad is pointing at your homepage and hoping.

What we do instead

Paid work done right starts with the groundwork

Four steps in order, each standing on the one before. This is what we build for you, and it is what makes any ad you run later pay back.

  1. 01 · Appear

A listing and pages ready to take the click

Your Google profile and your job pages, built so the customer who searches for your trade in your town finds you and finds the right page.

See what goes into this step

    Your Google profile

    • Your Google Business Profile built or rebuilt: the right categories, every service, every area you cover, real photos from jobs
    • No profile yet? We set one up in your name and see it through Google's checks
    • Your name, address and number matched on every listing, so Google treats it as one business

    Your website

    • A page for each job you want more of, such as rewiring, consumer unit changes, EICRs and EV charger installs
    • Pages for the towns you cover, where people search for them
    • Google Search Console connected, with each new page sent to Google the day it goes live
  2. 02 · Prove

    Reviews that settle the comparison

Three electricians look alike on the map. The one with fresh, specific reviews gets the call.

See what goes into this step
    • A review request sent after every job, so asking never depends on you remembering Silver+
    • Scripts for asking in person, by text and after a quote, so reviews name the job and the town Silver+
    • Review QR codes for the van and the invoice Silver+
    • Every review answered for you, in your voice Silver+
  3. 03 · Capture

Every call caught, and traced to where it came from

A missed call gets a text straight back, and every enquiry lands in one place with its source on it.

See what goes into this step
    • Missed-call text-back, and an alert the moment an enquiry lands
    • Calls, forms, texts and WhatsApp in one inbox, with LeadFlow™ as your customer manager
    • Tracked numbers, so you can see which calls came from the map, the website, a post or a link. That is also how you would judge any ad you run later
    • A quote chaser for quotes that have gone quiet
    • Text follow-ups for people who enquired and went quiet Every plan
    • Email and text follow-ups for past customers Silver+
  4. 04 · Compound

A little more built every month

Each month adds content on top of work that is already done, and you see what it brought in.

See what goes into this step
    • A monthly plan, signed off by you before anything goes live
    • Local blog posts answering what homeowners search, from fuse box questions to EV charger costs
    • Google Business Profile posts and Facebook posts, with Instagram from Silver
    • A plain-English monthly report of your calls, enquiries and reviews

Once those four are working, ad spend becomes a decision you can judge with your own numbers. What's included depends on your level. See what each level includes.

What you can hold us to

We say no to the work we don't do

Trades businesses are all we work with. That includes telling you where we stop.

We earn nothing from your ad spend

We don't run Google Ads or Meta ads, and we take no cut of any ad spend. Our advice on when to spend has no money behind it.

Month to month, and it's yours

Bronze, Silver and Gold roll monthly with 30 days' notice and no exit penalty. You own everything we build.

Reported as calls, not clicks

We report the calls and enquiries the work brings in and the reviews it earns.

Honest about timing

Map and review work shows over weeks, not days. We won't promise a date or a ranking.

What to expect, and when →

Before you ask

What electricians ask about ads and lead sites

Four fair questions, answered straight.

›"A rival's ad sits above me on Google."

It can. The map results and the reviews sit right beneath it, and that is where people compare. Be strong there and you are in the comparison without paying for the top slot.

›"Checkatrade and MyBuilder already send me work."

Keep them if they pay. Know that profile is rented: it goes when the membership does. Your own profile, pages and reviews stay with you and keep ringing the phone.

›"Can't you run a small ad budget for me?"

Not Google Ads or Meta ads. Our time goes on the map, the reviews and the pages, because those keep working after a budget ends. If you want enquiries while that builds, we can set up Google Local Services Ads and look after the leads they bring, as an optional extra. They aren't in any plan.

›"I need work this month, not in three."

Fair. Map and review work shows in weeks, and we can't promise a date. If you need calls now, Google Local Services Ads, which we can set up for you and look after the leads they bring, as an optional extra, can fill the gap. Don't let it be the only thing.

Advertising for electricians, the honest answers

What electricians ask Google about advertising

Last reviewed October 2026.

How much does it cost an electrician to advertise?

It depends on how you advertise, and none of the prices are fixed. Google search ads charge each time someone clicks, lead sites charge a membership or a fee per enquiry, and Facebook and Instagram ads charge against a budget you set. The price moves with your town, the job and how many other electricians want the same customer. We won't put a figure on it, because we'd be guessing. If anyone quotes you one without asking where you work, ask how they got it.

How much should an electrician spend on advertising?

Work out what you could lose over a few months without it hurting, and set that as the cap before anything goes live. Then watch which calls the spend produced. If you can't see that, don't raise the budget. A free Scorecard shows whether your profile and reviews are ready for the traffic first.

What's the best way to advertise a new electrical business?

Start with the things that keep paying after you stop spending: a finished Google Business Profile, a first run of reviews, and a page for each job you want more of. Add paid advertising once someone who finds you can see why they should ring you. The free Scorecard shows which of those is missing.

Do you run Google Ads for electricians?

We don't run Google Ads or Meta ads. We build what any ad would depend on: the map listing, the reviews, the job pages and the call catching. We can set up Google Local Services Ads, the pay-per-lead listings at the top of Google search, and look after the leads they bring, as an optional extra for a trade that wants enquiries while the long-term work builds. It isn't part of any plan. Ask us and we'll tell you if it suits your patch.

Is Checkatrade or another lead site worth it for an electrician?

It can be, for some electricians in some towns. Check two things before you pay: how many other tradespeople get the same enquiry, and what you're left with if you stop. Bark's customer terms, for example, say 'a maximum of five Professionals will contact you directly' (Bark.com customer terms, clause 2.5(a), checked September 2026). Your own profile, pages and reviews stay yours either way.

How do I promote my electrical business without paying for ads?

Finish your Google profile and list every job you do. Ask each customer for a review that names the job and the town. Build a page for each job you want more of, and answer the phone or text back fast. It takes time every week, so be honest about whether you'll keep it up. That weekly work is the part we do for you.

What do your plans cost, and what do I get?

Plans start at £500 a month (Bronze), on top of a one-off £1,500 Foundation Build, though Bronze can start content-only if your foundation is already in place. Bronze is content, written and published for you. Silver adds proof, such as review requests after every job. Gold adds pages written to be quoted by AI tools. Bronze, Silver and Gold roll monthly with 30 days' notice, and you own everything we build. The full breakdown is on our pricing page and the line-by-line list is on what you get.
