Leads for electricians
You're up a ladder in a loft. Your phone buzzes. Whose lead is it?
Lead sites sell you an enquiry that other electricians may get as well. Your own Google profile, reviews and service pages bring calls that come to you first.
Here's what the lead sites charge and do, and what owning your own visibility looks like beside them.
The Scorecard is 18 questions, about 4 minutes. You see your score and what ChatGPT says about your business, on screen.

Leads for electricians, in short
- The question
- Should an electrician pay Checkatrade, MyBuilder, Bark or Rated People for leads, or put the effort into being found directly? Many do both for a while. This page sets out what each route asks of you.
- Lead sites
- You pay a membership fee or buy enquiries, and the site decides how many electricians see each one. Checkatrade's prices are published, and the sums are laid out below.
- Your own visibility
- A finished Google Business Profile, reviews that name the job, a page for each service and a way to catch every enquiry. You own all of it, and it keeps working when a membership ends.
- Who does the work
- We do. Every plan is done for you: we write it and put it live.
- What it costs
- Plans from £500 a month. Bronze, Silver and Gold roll monthly with 30 days' notice. Every plan sits on a one-off Foundation Build, £1,500 with any plan, though Bronze can start content-only if your foundation is already in place. See pricing.
- Our promise
- Our 90-Day Confidence Guarantee means that in your first 90 days we deliver what your plan sets out. If we haven't, we keep working at no extra cost until we have. The guarantee is on delivery. We don't promise rankings or a number of calls.
What the lead sites publish, and what they leave out
We read Checkatrade's pricing page on 9 October 2026, and its definitions page and Bark's terms on 30 September 2026. Prices move, so check the site before you sign anything.
| Site | What it publishes | What we couldn't find |
|---|---|---|
| Checkatrade | Three plans on its pricing page for trades: Free at £0 a month, Approved at £30 a month and Growth at "Prices from £59/mo". Its definitions page names an Application Fee, "currently £50", that it "may charge". Independent reviews of its member terms report a 12-month contract that renews automatically, and that only the business owner can stop it, by phone. | VAT and contract length aren't shown on the plan cards. How many members see the same enquiry isn't published. |
| Bark | Credits are paid for in advance (clause 8.1 of Bark's terms). When a customer sends a request before picking anyone, Bark's customer terms (clause 2.5(a)) say "a maximum of five Professionals will contact you directly". | What a credit costs. We haven't priced it. |
| MyBuilder and Rated People | Each runs its own model and publishes its own terms. | We haven't priced either, so we won't guess. Read the terms before you pay. |
Growth is the plan to read closely. Local Search North's review says its price is set by your trade, the postcodes you cover and how many enquiries you want, so £59 is "a starting point rather than a typical bill". Local Adder's tracker of member-reported bills runs from £80 to £500 a month. Our full walk-through is in how much Checkatrade costs.
Four things a lead site can't hand over
Some electricians get good work from lead sites, and this page doesn't say otherwise. These are the parts you never get to keep.
A customer who may be ringing round
If the same enquiry reaches other electricians, you're one quote among several before you've said hello. You find out how many by winning or losing the job.
A profile that belongs to them
Your page on a lead site sits on their address, in their layout, next to the electricians you're up against. Change the plan or leave, and it stays theirs.
A bill before you know the job is yours
Monthly fees and prepaid credits are paid whether or not an enquiry turns into work. Some of those fees come with a 12-month term attached.
Reviews you can't point your own website at
A review earned on someone else's site helps you there. The same review on your Google profile and your own pages helps you wherever a customer looks you up.
A lead site rents you a seat in somebody else's shop. Your own visibility is a shop with your name over the door.
What homeowners type before they ring an electrician
These are the questions people ask Google about electrical work. Your profile and pages need to answer them, so the call comes to you.
The certificate worry
"Is having an EICR a legal requirement?" "Who can issue a Part P certificate?" Landlords and sellers want to know it's sorted, and who can do it near them.
The big job
Rewires, consumer unit swaps and EV chargers. "Can a normal electrician fit an EV charger?" is a real search, and the answer sits on your service page.
Something's gone wrong
A fuse box that keeps tripping, flickering lights, a socket that's gone dead. They want someone close, with recent reviews, and a number to tap.
The cost question
"How much does an electrician charge to add a socket?" People weigh up cost before they pick a name. Pages that talk about cost earn the call.
The qualified check
"Can any electrician provide an EICR?" Customers want proof you're registered and insured. Your scheme details belong where they look.
The AI answer
Some now ask ChatGPT who to call. It picks from clear pages, matching details and plenty of reviews. How that works.
These come from search data on electrical work, so nothing here is a guess about what people want.

The aim is to be the name people pass on, so a lead site becomes one option on your list and no longer the only one.

Straight terms, from people who publish the price
We have shown you what lead sites leave out. So here's what we put on the table.
Prices on the page
Bronze £500, Silver £950, Gold £1,500 a month, Platinum from £2,000, on one Foundation Build. They're on our pricing page for anyone to read.
30 days' notice, and it's yours
Bronze, Silver and Gold roll monthly with no exit penalty. You give 30 days' notice and you own everything we build.
Pointed at the work you want
Tell us you'd rather fit EV chargers than chase socket repairs and the pages follow. We build for the jobs you want more of.
Measured in calls and enquiries
We report the calls and enquiries the work brings in and the reviews it earns, never traffic graphs.

What electricians say about lead sites
Four fair points, and where we stand.
Then keep it while it pays for itself. Tracked numbers show you which calls came from where, so you decide with your own figures when to scale it back.
The Google profile moves first. Pages, reviews and the wider work build over the months after. We can't give you a date, which is why the lead site can stay in the meantime.
Hold us to something specific. We report calls, enquiries and reviews every month, and every plan carries our 90-Day Confidence Guarantee on delivery.
Bronze, Silver and Gold roll monthly. Leave on 30 days' notice and keep every page, post and review we built.

How much is Checkatrade for an electrician?
Checkatrade's pricing page for trades lists Free at £0 a month, Approved at £30 a month and Growth at "Prices from £59/mo" (checked 9 October 2026). Growth is the plan that brings enquiries, and its price depends on your trade, your postcodes and how many enquiries you want. Local Adder's tracker of member-reported bills runs from £80 to £500 a month. Our full Checkatrade cost breakdown goes through the contract and the fees.
Is paying for Checkatrade worth it as an electrician?
It depends on what it brings you against what it costs, and only your own numbers can answer that. Put a tracked phone number on your profile and count the calls and the jobs won over a few months. If it pays for itself, keep it. If you can't tell, that's a reason to start measuring.
Which is better, Checkatrade or MyBuilder?
We haven't priced MyBuilder, so we won't rank them. Both run on their own terms, and both can sit alongside work you own. Read each one's terms for what you pay, how many electricians see each enquiry and how long you're committed, then compare against your own call tracking.
Is lead generation worth it in 2026?
Rented leads can fill a diary quickly, and they stop when you stop paying. Leads from your own Google profile, reviews and pages take longer to build and carry on after the work is done. Many electricians run both while the second one grows. Results vary, and we don't promise a number of calls.
How do I get electrical leads without paying per lead?
Finish your Google Business Profile, ask every customer for a review that names the job, and build a page for each service you want more of. Make sure every call, form and message gets caught and answered. Why businesses go missing on the map covers the first step in more depth.
How do I promote my electrical business?
Start where customers already look: Google Maps and search, your reviews, your website, and now AI tools like ChatGPT. Then add regular posts from your real jobs. You can do the basics yourself if you'll keep it up every week. Or we do it for you, and the free Scorecard shows where to begin either way.
What does it cost to get found without a lead site?
Plans start from £500 a month, and every plan is done for you. Bronze, Silver and Gold roll monthly with 30 days' notice and no exit penalty. Every plan sits on a one-off Foundation Build, £1,500 with any plan, though Bronze can start content-only if your foundation is already in place. The full breakdown is on our pricing page.
Do I have to stop using Checkatrade to work with you?
No. Many electricians keep a lead site running while their own profile and pages build. We set up tracked numbers so you can see which source brings the calls, and you decide when to scale anything back.
